Juris System Requirements

An Important Note about Juris® System and Software Recommendations

The system and software recommendations provided here are guidelines, and we do not guarantee a specific level of performance. These recommendations may not have been explicitly evaluated in a formal test environment but represent a composite of specifications based on formal testing, the experience of our developers and engineers, and interactions with our customers. These specifications represent a likely environment within which our software will operate satisfactorily.

Please contact Juris Customer Support if you or your technician have questions.

Network Requirements

We support the Juris software on a properly configured Novell or Microsoft network. The network software needs to be a current version with all service packs applied. Also, your firm needs access to a qualified network engineer.

Server Software

Windows Server 2008 R2/2008/2003

NOTE: When you use Windows Server 2008, you need to manage IIS settings. See the Juris Suite Installation Guide for IIS7 setup instructions. If you plan to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 and are on 2.35 SP1, please review the compatibility document.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2005

NOTE: We support SQL Server 2008 only with Juris 2.4 and later

Microsoft® SQL Server® Express 2008/2005

NOTE: We support SQL Server 2008 only with Juris 2.4 and later. We support SQL Server Express, but we do not recommend it because of database size and memory limitations.

Citrix MetaFrame/Windows Terminal Server

NOTE: We do not support setup and configuration of Citrix MetaFrame or Windows Terminal Server.

NOTE: The database server computer needs a minimum of 2 GB of RAM, plus 32 MB of RAM per active user (the estimated number of users concurrently connecting to the server at any one time). Inadequate memory reduces performance.

We recommend (and in the case of a Novell network, require) that you use a Juris database server that is separate from the computer functioning as a file, print, or Exchange server. This is particularly relevant with Small Business Server.

The Juris database does not need a dedicated database server if your firm has multiple applications using the same database engine. Additional applications/databases on the SQL Server may significantly increase the memory and processor requirements.

Workstation Recommendations

Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate

NOTE: Before you upgrade to Windows 7, please review the compatibility document for 2.35 SP1. We do not support the Juris software on XP, Vista, or Windows 7 Home Editions

Vista Business/Ultimate

NOTE: We do not support the Juris software on XP, Vista, or Windows 7 Home Editions.

Microsoft XP Professional

NOTE: We do not support the Juris software on XP, Vista, or Windows 7 Home Editions.

We recommend an Intel Duo Core processor with 2 GB of RAM for optimal performance.

The Juris software requires SVGA video at a minimum resolution of 1024x768; however, we recommend 1280x1024.

The Juris software requires Microsoft Excel for Office 2002 or greater on the workstation(s) used to print financial statements.

The Juris software requires a MAPI-compliant mail transport system to use the built-in email features.

We recommend that you use laser printers for all printing to get design-level performance, and we require them for check printing.

We strongly recommend access to the Internet and to a recordable CD-R/DVD-R, because it significantly enhances our ability to provide you support.

Backup Recommendations

You may use the built-in Juris backup capability or an alternate commercial backup solution configured for a SQL Server 2005/2008 database to back up your Juris database. We recommend that you use a continuous online backup service. Our preference is LexisNexis Data Backup and Protection Service. If your firm prefers to manage backup procedures in-house, we recommend Veritas Backup Exec or ARCserve Backup. Both provide scheduled automatic backups.
